PHILADELPHIA -- First came the World Series championship. Now it's time for the parade.

Complete Coverage

The Phillies and Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter will hold a news conference Thursday at Citizens Bank Park to announce details of a parade to be held Friday. The parade will originate at noon at 20th and Market Streets and travel south down Broad Street, ending at the sports complex.

"Phillies fans have been waiting 28 years for this day," Nutter said in a statement issued following Wednesday's Game 5 clincher. "We deserve this win. I can't wait to share this day with Phillies fans from across the city, state, and even country."

For 45-year-old Phillies pitcher Jamie Moyer, who grew up in Sellersville, Pa., and went to college at St. Joseph's in Philadelphia, the parade will be the culmination of a lifelong affection for the city.

"This is a dream come true," Moyer said in an on-field interview with FOX following the game. "Being at the parade in '80, and now we're going to be in a parade sometime later this week, it's all been worth it. We battled all season long and everybody played well this season. We've had our ups and downs like every club has, and we were able to stay healthy and battle through it, and here we are."

Lincoln Highway - lincoln highway map, route 66, lincoln highway ohio, lincoln highway association, the lincoln highway

Lincoln Highway

The Lincoln Highway was the first road across the United States.[1] Actively promoted by entrepreneur Carl G. Fisher, the Lincoln Highway originally spanned coast-to-coast from Times Square in New York City to Lincoln Park in San Francisco through 13 states: New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, and California. In 1915, the "Colorado Loop" was removed, and in 1928, a realignment relocated the Lincoln Highway through the northern tip of West Virginia. Thus, there are a total of 14 states, 128 counties, and over 500 cities, towns and villages through which the highway passed at some time in its history.

The first officially recorded mileage for the entire Lincoln Highway was 3389 miles (5454 km) in 1913.[2] Over the years, the road was improved and numerous realignments were made. Counting the original route and all of the subsequent realignments, there is a grand total of 5869 miles (9445 km).[3]

Conceived in 1912 and formally dedicated October 31, 1913, the Lincoln Highway was America's first major memorial to President Abraham Lincoln, predating the 1922 dedication of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. by 9 years. As the first automobile road across America, the Lincoln Highway brought great prosperity to the hundreds of cities, towns and villages along the way. Affectionately, the Lincoln Highway became known as "The Main Street Across America".

Obama TV Speech Five Reasons Why the Obama Infomercial was Worth the Cost

Five Reasons Why the Obama Infomercial was Worth the Cost

Let's be honest: the Obama infomercial was about comforting white Americans - especially middle and working class white Americans. That said, it was arguably necessary and - for what it was - very effective.
Although only time will tell, it appears that the Obama infomercial accomplished exactly what it needed to do: soothing skittish white undecided voters without alienating current supporters.
1. With a set evocative of the Oval Office, Obama's presence in the piece served as a preview to what it would look like if he were to be elected as President. By providing a chance for the still uneasy undecideds to envision this future, it will likely work to move some of those voters out of their reluctance. Despite the McCain campaigns increasingly strident assertions to the contrary, Obama gave every appearance of being more than "ready" to step into the role of a world leader.
2. By showing numerous photos of Obama interacting with white working class Americans of different ages (in addition to black and Latino Americans), the infomercial leveraged the power of visual imagery to contextualize Obama as "one of us" within the minds of those voters. This is a welcome and much-needed change from advertisements by the campaign that have, up until now, sometimes focused too much on words alone to convey their messages. In addition, the narratives within the piece evoked emotional response and connection - again, very welcome and somewhat different than the frequently more conceptual and cognitive appeal of previous Obama campaign advertising.
3. For those who resonate to the cognitive, the infomercial also clearly presented (again) specifics of Obama's plans to address the most pressing issues on the minds of many voters. If you believe their words, undecided voters tend to respond well to specifics and to talk about "needing more information" when asked about why they continue to be undecided.
4. If, however, you do not believe the words of the undecided voters tell the whole story, the piece was still effective. By any objective measure, Obama came across as reasonable, knowledgeable and - most importantly for the sake of television - likeable. As anyone who is familiar with media knows, that is the primary goal of any television appearance. People seldom remember more than one point someone makes (if they even recall one) when they appear on television, but they are strongly affected by how the person comes across.
5. Within the biographical parts of the piece, Obama's life story was reiterated as epitomizing the American dream. Certainly it can be said that it would take someone very determined to continue to characterize Obama as a "terrorist" within their own minds after watching the infomercial - and those people would never vote for him anyway. Additionally, when Obama talked about his mother's death and about his own lack of perfection - saying even "I will not be a perfect president" - his humanity came through powerfully.
The Obama infomercial was a risk - but the piece will likely go down in history as yet another way that the Obama campaign has changed forever the face of political campaigning through its creative use of media.

Obama 30 minute ad

BARACK Obama last night swamped the airwaves with an unprecedented 30-minute prime time commercial to ram home his plans for the United States presidency with five days of campaigning remaining.
By luck or judgment the commercial gained a huge audience thanks to its appearance before a potentially decisive game in the baseball World Series.
In a broadcast cut with a live interview to camera, the Democratic candidate presented a syrupy vie
w of the US, with shots of flags, former presidents, suburban lawns and freight trains.
Mr Obama is shown sitting at a kitchen table with a group of white blue-collar workers, repeating his election mantra that a McCain presidency would amounts to four more years of the policies of the discredited Bush administration.
"We've seen over the last eight years how decisions by a president can have a profound effect on the course of history and on American lives," he says. "Much that's wrong with our country goes back even further."
Then, after cutaways showing adoring crowds greeting the candidate, he says: "I've travelled the length of this country and met so many Americans who are looking for real and lasting change."
Viewers found nothing new in the commercial, but the mere fact that Mr Obama could stage it – at a reputed cost of £3 million – underlines his huge cash advantage over his rival.
Money continues to pour into the Obama campaign, expected to raise $700 million, more than the combined Democratic and Republican campaign budgets for the 2004 election.
Democrat officials say privately there is method in the advertising madness: research showed white voter opinion of Mr Obama almost always improved the more his face was seen around a state.
One official told The Scotsman it was down to race. He said: "For some white people, Obama is unfamiliar, (so] they need time to get to know him."
Mr McCain has also launched a late advertising blitz, aiming his fire at the dangers he says are posed by an inexperienced Mr Obama taking power.
Images of his commercials feature Islamic extremists, tanks and a storm-tossed seascape, overlaid with comments from Mr Obama's running mate that, were he to win the White House, an "international crisis" would "test the mettle of (Mr Obama]".
Voter reaction to the Obama commercial is not yet clear, but Republicans hope the eight per cent of undecided voters – enough to give Mr McCain the presidency if they all break his way – may be put off by what they see as Democratic hubris.
Figures released yesterday show that Mr Obama's advertisements have run a staggering 145,000 times, compared with Mr McCain's 60,000 ad spots.
