ABC News' Imtiyaz Delawala reports: Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin returned to her hometown of Wasilla, Alaska this morning to cast her ballot in the 2008 election, capping a two-month whirlwind that launched her from an obscure state governor onto the national political scene as the Republican vice presidential nominee.
After crossing the nation campaigning in five states yesterday, ending with a midnight rally in Elko, Nevada, Palin flew overnight to her home state of Alaska, where she voted at Wasilla City Hall shortly after polls opened there at 7 a.m. Alaska time.
"What a great place to get to cast a vote," Palin said after exiting Wasilla City Hall, where a fresh blanket of light snow covered the ground. "It's such an honor of course to get to be able to be back home with my friends and family, to exercise my right to vote and being just one of millions across America today."
"And again, so glad to get to be home in Wasilla, to cast this vote," Palin added. "Because forever I'm gonna be Sarah from Alaska. And it's an honor to get to be here with my friends and family."
