Obama Infomercial Approaches as He Keeps Lead in Swing States

Obama Infomercial Approaches as He Keeps Lead in Swing States

Barack Obama has only six days left to hold his growing lead and not make any more mistakes. Otherwise, history for Obama is almost in his grasp. To seal the deal and continue to dominate the news cycle while John McCain plays catchup, Obama is holding his prime time "infomercial" tonight at 8 p.m. on almost all the major networks.
Obama's infomercial will delay the first pitch of the suspended Game 5 of the World Series, in the swing state of Pennsylvania. But aside from that, an Obama infomercial has just the right timing as the polls keep going up in his favor.
According to the Associated Press, new polls have Obama up in six of the eight states he needs to seal the victory. Colorado, Nevada, New Hampshire, Ohio, Virginia and Pennsylvania are all in Obama's favor, while he is even with McCain in Florida and North Carolina.
All Obama realistically needs are wins in just a few of the smaller states in that group, or wins in one of the bigger states, to clinch a win in the Electoral College.
Obama has stressed that he will continue on the offensive and not rest on his lead, calming fears of those who still worry about "The Bradley Effect" and a few tighter national polls. The infomercial is part of that final attack, as Obama will sum up his plans and goals one final time to the nation.
It should not be like the Saturday Night Live parody last week where the Obamas were so confident of their lead, the infomercial became a variety show.
Obama can afford to buy such exposure with his massive campaign war chest, while McCain still has to conserve his money for campaigning. But the infomercial will be dissected for at least one news cycle, taking away at least one or two days McCain needs to make headlines of his own. That is a more costly consequence for McCain with just six days left to work with.
All of the networks will air the Obama infomercial except for ABC, which will air their traditional Wednesday night, low rated lineup of Pushing Daisies, Private Practice and Dirty Sexy Money. NBC, CBS, FOX, Univision, BET, MSNBC and TV One will televise the infomercial as scheduled.
